Things You'll Need

  • Yarn
  • Crochet hook
  • Scissors
    • 1
Wrap the yarn around the first two fingers of your non-dominant hand so the tail end goes across the top of your fingers and hangs down. Loop the working end of the yarn up and over the top of your fingers, crossing the yarn from the tail end and hanging down behind it.
    • 2
Insert hook between the yarn and your finger. Draw up a loop from the working end of the yarn and chain one.
    • 3
Make five single crochets into the loop. With your hook still in place, grasp the tail end of the yarn and gently pull the loop closed. This is called a "magic circle," and begins a crocheted circle without the hole in the center often left by the standard method of working into a chain stitch.

Slip stitch into the first stitch to join. Working in the same space, make one single crochet, three double crochets, a single crochet and one slip stitch. This completes the first petal.
    • 5
Slip stitch into the next single crochet. Work the same series of stitches into each single crochet stitch around. The finished flower features five petals, one for each single crochet in the first round.
    • 6
Cut the feed yarn, leaving a 3-inch tail and pull through the last stitch to finish.
